Day 4: All about your parents
So.... This is quite a hard topic to blog about because it's quite vague... Well, so...
Both my parents are Malaysian and lived in Malaysia before they met. So firstly, this is the map of Malaysia, just to make things easier to understand...
Ok so.... My mother lived in Kulai, which is not written on the map but is located near the "J" of JOHOR. Where my father lived was by the sea, at Desaru. And from Kulai to Desaru, takes a car trip of 2 hours. Wow. Imagine traveling to the other end of Malaysia. Omg. But anyway, my cousin lives in Penang, Butterworth, so I can say I'm near to traveling to the other end of Malaysia. And I've also been to Kedah, Alor Setar, for my cousin's wedding. So that's the furthest I've gone to. Ok, back to topic...
My mother is the oldest among her other 6 siblings, so there's 7 of them in total. My mother stopped studying when she was Sec 2 or so because her family did not have enough money for her to study.. (and also to let the younger ones study) So as the eldest, she had to go to work with her mother, which is my grandma. So she worked at rubber plantations, according to what she told me, and she said it was HARD work and both scary. They have to wake up at midnight and walk to rubber plantations and work work work and walk back home after the whole day of work. It's quite a pity lor... because I think my mum is honestly quite smart. I believe if she continued to study she could have achieved much more now lor.....
My father is the youngest son among the three sons. First, I have to say 'wow' because my grandma had all 3 sons....... so.... WOW, quite an achievement in the olden days. Lol. So my father stopped studying after Primary school and he is really quite.... stupid. Lol sorry but I remember few years back when we went back to Desaru to visit my grandma, we found a old workbook my father used in Primary school and there were a lot of crosses beside his answer.... Hahahahahaha. Ok so after my father stopped studying, he became a.... paikia. Lolol. which is a gangster, if you don't know. So I heard he got into quite a bit of fights before, left home because of gangsters looking for him, went to thailand to get his tattoo tattoo-ed by some religious person, started smoking at age 15 etc. The coolest one would be he slept in a tree for weeks together with his gang mates to avoid getting found by other gangsters. Wow hor. I want to try leh... But I think I will roll down the tree hahaha.
So my parents knew each other due to a friend's intro. So I guess it is true that all girls love bad guys huh? Since my dad is a gangster..... Lol. So anyway, my mum's mum obviously didn't like my father because he was a gangster, had tattoos and smoked. But obviously, my mum was too in love with my dad so they just 'heck care' what people thought. My mum said even during their wedding day, her mother was still quite angry lolol.
So after they got married, my parents moved to Singapore as Permanent Residents to work and they had my brother and I. Me and my brother would then be taken care by my grandma and aunts while my parents were working. So as time passed, my parents saved enough money to finally get a flat of their own and we lived together in Singapore. By the time we were old enough and didn't need my relative's care anymore.. (like no more milk and crying and stuff) And here we go, 2 individual lads right here right now using their laptops at this very moment.
So... that's about it huh? Oh my mother also warned me to not find somebody like my father because he's very stupid and can't find a good job and smokes so much and drinks so much and our family is so poor yada yada and that she was stupid to have married him. But I guess... this is family huh? To accept one's weakness and really love them. Here am I anyway. Tada! Thanks to my dad's sperm and my mum's egg. So because of my mum, my idea of love is really quite practical... like I wouldn't want someone like my dad if it was me now because there's a living example of the consequences - my family! My family isn't THAT bad la... But I think it could be better if we had more money? Actually my family is really quite poor one lor. It's just that people don't know only. And so I find those true love stories quite bullshit because it can't really bring you far if you only have true love. In this world, money takes you further than love. But I'm still glad my family is quite a happy family and my parents did not divorce even though my mum keeps complaining about my dad. Hahaha.
